Construction
The Peasant is a single 12AX7 based valve/tube boost pedal and is suitable for clean boosting, tonal enhancement, or for pushing an amp or an OD pedal harder for more breakup or overdrive/distortion.
The Input Z, or variable input impedance control allows the user to lower the input impedance of the circuit to a value that is lower than the norm.
This ensures a proper impedance match between the guitar’s pickups and the amplifier (or first effect pedal), for an efficient transfer of the guitars signal to the circuit it is driving, resulting in the minimum signal loss possible and an acceptable bandwidth for a traditional electric guitar sound.

Controls
Volume – sets the output volume of the circuit;
Input Z – sets the input impedance of the circuit. When this control is turned up to maximum, the Peasant has a high input impedance, for the traditional tonal response of a full range boost pedal. Used this way the Peasant makes a very nice general-purpose boost pedal.
As the Input Z control is turned down the input impedance is lowered. The bass response will be reduced and when the Peasant is first in line the resonant peak of the guitar’s pickups will be lowered, resulting in less treble response or presence.
In practice the resultant tonal response will vary depending on the guitar used and it’s electronics – experiment with this control to find the tonal response you like, then set the Volume control for the amount of boost required.
