Overview
The Kingsley Constable Bassman-Plexi, to get the most authentic valve tone out of its hand wired circuitis, uses a dual 12AX7 (running at high voltage around 270 VDC).
It's a channel switching preamplifier modeled on the classic Fender Bassman and the late ‘60s Super Lead plexi Marshall variation of this circuit.
It is designed to be run directly into a power amplifier or effects loop return, but may also be used in front of a regular guitar amplifier.

Features
The full feature set of a Bassman or late ’60 Plexi is provided with Treble, Middle and Bass controls being shared for both channels.
The Bassman side and Plexi sides then also have separate Bright Volumes, as well as individual Master Volumes.
In addition there is a Bassman blend pot on the back right of the pedal (un-labeled), that allows you to blend in some of the Bassman channel while playing the Plexi channel.
Additional features include a global “Output” switch for selecting front of amp (FOA) use, attenuated output preamp use and full preamp output, as well as a global 3-way Bright switch.
On this version of the Constable, here is a summary of the layout and labeling:
- “Volume 1” is the Bassman Bright Volume;
- “Volume 2” is the Plexi Bright Volume;
- The un-labeled pot on the back right of the pedal is the Bassman blend pot.
- “Master A” is the Bassman master volume;
- “Master B” (on the back left of the pedal) is the Plexi master volume;
- “Treble”, “Middle” and “Bass” are for both channels
- “Output” is the 3-way output level switch and is for both channels;
- “Bright 1” is the 3-way bright switch and works in conjunction with the Bright Volume
for each channel.
The Bright switch:
Bright 1 = Bassman – normal, Plexi – moderately bright
Bright 2 = Bassman – brighter, Plexi – aggressive upper mids
Bright 3 = Bassman – brighter, Plexi – moderately bright.
