If you’re not using Pro Tools, recording on a Mac or PC, and looking for a firewire-based DAW, check out the new MOTU 828 mk3. I own a few MOTU audio i/o’s and for the most part, very happy with them. I currently use the MOTU 2408 mk3 and a MOTU 24 i/o, giving me up to 48 channels of i/o. It’s pretty ridiculous to have that many inputs and outputs, but what I really like is that I can have every piece of hardware (synths, f/x, tape machines, etc.) plugged in at all times and easily accessible in Logic. One common drawback to recording in a native environment is the fact that latency is always present when you route audio in or out of your computer.
